Ella Fitzgerald was a major influence and greatly admired by the members of The Manhattan Transfer. Shortly after she died in 1996, The Manhattan Transfer Fan Club posted a tribute to her with Alan Paul's lyrics to the song "All Heart (Portrait of Ella)." Janis recently guested on percussionist Frank Colon's new CD, which is titled Latin Wonder - The Music of Stevie Wonder. Janis sings two songs on it: "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing" and "Superstition". It was recorded in Denver, Colorado. Buddy Williams, who used to be The Manhattan Transfer's drummer, is also on the project. (Remember Buddy and his BX-1??)

"The Indiana Jones of the Music World" (the Tolucan). Composer/musician/adventurer Chuck Jonkey has traveled around the world collecting sounds, instruments and tribal music. He and Alan Paul composed "The Quietude" which features ethnic instruments and deep Amazon jungle sounds Chuck recorded on one of his expeditions.

Singer/songerwriter/background vocalist David Lasley wrote "Shaker Song," which was recorded by the Manhattan Transfer.

Steve Lukather played guitar on both Extensions and Mecca For Moderns.

The Four Freshmen are among the groups admired by The Manhattan Transfer and they have appeared together many times.

Bobby McFerrin has appeared on a couple of Manhattan Transfer albums and Janis appeared on his Circlesongs release.

James Taylor performed on "Dream Lover" on the album Tonin'.

Laura Nyro performed on "La-La Means I Love You" on the album Tonin'.
